Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is the Elite MMA™ Program?

Elite MMA™ offers group-based training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Mixed Martial Arts for adults, teens, and kids. We focus on real skill development — not just workouts. Whether you’re training for fitness, self-defense, or confidence, you’ll learn in a structured, supportive environment built for growth.

Do I need experience to get started?

Not at all. Most of our students begin with little or no martial arts background. Our intro lessons are designed to ease you in with beginner-friendly instruction and a strong emphasis on safety and learning the basics at your pace.

What happens during the intro lesson?

You’ll join one of our beginner-friendly group sessions, meet our instructors, and get a feel for our environment and teaching style. You’ll learn basic techniques, movement, and structure — while seeing what it’s like to train as part of the Elite MMA™ community.

How much time do I need to commit?

Most members start with two to three classes per week. Each class runs 45–60 minutes. You can adjust frequency as your schedule and goals evolve.

What should I bring for class?

Comfortable athletic wear is perfect for your first session — shorts or joggers and a T-shirt. Some locations have loaner gis available for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; others will let you train in standard athletic apparel. Your coach will let you know what’s best for that location.

What if I’m out of shape or nervous to start?

You’re in good company — nearly everyone feels that way starting out. Our classes are designed to meet you where you are. You’ll train safely, progress gradually, and gain strength and confidence as you go.

What results can I expect from training?

Expect to see physical changes within a few weeks — better fitness, flexibility, and focus. Over time, most students experience deeper confidence, mental discipline, and a stronger sense of balance in and out of the gym.

How will my child benefit from martial arts?

Our youth programs teach more than techniques. They build focus, respect, and confidence — skills that carry into school, home, and friendships. Parents often tell us their kids become more self-assured and disciplined after just a few months.

Is this program for competitors or everyday people?

Both. Our system scales for all goals — from those just wanting fitness or self-defense, to those preparing for competition. Everyone trains together, with respect and structure.

I’m busy — how will I fit this in?

We understand. That’s why we offer multiple class times, six days a week, across all our Houston locations. We also provide private one-on-one lessons to accommodate different schedules. Just ask your coach or front desk for more info.

I’ve tried other gyms before and didn’t stick with it. How is this different?

Most things in life that are worth doing come with challenges — and martial arts is no different. There will be moments where you hit a wall or plateau, but that’s exactly where growth happens. Our coaches and community are built to help you push through that valley into your next breakthrough. You’ll never do it alone here.

Can families train together?

Yes! Many families train side-by-side or in back-to-back sessions. Youth programs are typically for students ages 4–16, and adult programs are for ages 16 and up. While we don’t combine young children and adults in the same class, we do coordinate family schedules so everyone can train at the same time.

Will I get hurt?

Safety is our top priority. Classes are supervised by our Elite MMA™ certified coaches who emphasize control and respect at all times. You’ll also train with partners who prioritize safety just as much as you do. We create a safe and structured learning environment where proper technique comes first. While martial arts is a contact sport — and you will experience some controlled contact — our number one focus is on your safety, your learning, and your long-term progress.

How much does it cost to start?

Pricing varies by location and program. Most new members start with our introductory offer to experience the classes firsthand. After your first session, we’ll walk you through flexible options — no pressure, no hidden fees.

MEET THE FOUNDER & CEO

Hey, I'm Hai

I’ve spent over three decades training, teaching, and living martial arts — and helped thousands of students transform their bodies, minds, and confidence through Elite MMA.

As co-founder of Elite MMA, I’ve built one of the largest and most respected martial arts gyms in the country, where I teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing, and MMA to men and women of all levels. My journey started back in Saigon, Vietnam, and took shape in Houston when I began training in the early ’90s — long before MMA was mainstream.

In 2006, I earned my black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — a milestone that represented years of discipline, perseverance, and the incredible people who helped me grow along the way. But the real reward has always been seeing others find the same strength and clarity through training that I found myself.

Today, Elite MMA continues to be a space where people can leave the world at the door, show up as they are, and become the best version of themselves — one class, one round, one lesson at a time.
